Pinel Island is a little inhabited paradise, just a short boat ride from French Cul-De-Sac. It is located in the heart of the Marine Park of St. Maarten. Ferry’s leave from the dock at Cul-De-Sac from 10 am till 5pm and it’s only a five minute ferry ride. If you feel more adventurous you can also peddle to Pinel Island within 15 minutes with a kayak or stand up paddle board, available to rent close by.
Pinel Island is a unique beach; a protected nature reserve boasts a calm and sheltered beach, perfect for families. There are three restaurants located on the island offering lunch, dinner and refreshing drinks. Pinel Island is a great place to rent beach chairs and umbrellas and relax on its beautiful white sand beach. If you like to explore the island, make sure you bring your hiking shoes. Pinel is often called St. Maarten’s best kept secret and has always been popular with locals. If you would like to visit Pinel Island don’t forget to bring your snorkeling gear. If you’re lucky you can have a swim with some sea turtles!
In addition there is a colony of really tame iguanas on Pinel, allowing you to make pictures from real close and even feed the iguana’s from your hand. Be careful, not to let them to close!
Take a dive and explore the underwater world for breathtaking views. Pinel Island is home to many coral reefs and even has its own snorkel trail. Eco-snorkeling offers snorkel gear rental and a fully guided snorkel tour with special audio equipment. This allows you to listen to a narrative about the reef and the fish as you are snorkeling. For the more adventurous snorkeler take a hike to the other side of Pinel Island and snorkel right off the beach to get a glimpse of lobsters, groupers and my other forms of sea life.
The main beach stays sun-drenched until the end of the day so sunbathing is definitely an option. Furthermore, you can visit a little hidden gift shop called ‘Paradiso’. With a wide collection of Caribbean colored souvenirs and unusual gifts.
Tip: Combine your visit to Pinel Island with a boat tour. There are lots of possibilities to go on a snorkeling tour and visit many beautiful places including Pinel Island. You can even departure from the Oyster Pond harbor, just a five minute drive from the Hotel.
