 Dutch is the official language of Sint Maarten and French is the official language of Saint Martin. English is widely spoken everywhere on the island. Additional languages include Spanish and Papiamento (evolved from Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese and a sprinkling of African, English and French).The total land area is 37 square miles with the southern portion of the island, Dutch Sint Maarten, comprising of 16 square miles and the northern portion of the island, French Saint Martin, comprising of 21 square miles. Climate: Mean temperature is 80 degrees/ 27 Celsius year round: 45 inches of rainfall annually. |
